In 2014 we started our free jazz/free impro imprint A NEW WAVE OF JAZZ, in conjunction with Dutch label TONEFLOAT, with the limited vinyl release of YODOK III’s untitled debut album.  After the initial couple of releases on this joint label, A NEW WAVE OF JAZZ became an independent label with a quest to release an impressive collection of releases from variety of international artists.  Music that deserved a listening ear but was too obscure, too new or just underappreciated to get a platform.  Our dedication was to just support that segment of music that wasn’t easy to be catalogued but do shared a certain work ethos and philosophy. From avantgarde to free jazz.

Over the course of these twelve years we managed to release 5 vinyl albums, 3 cassette albums and 52 compact discs, alongside organising several label festivals and curated concerts.  To critical acclaim for its wilfulness and relentless vision.

Our label remained old-school, meaning that it was stooled on the classic model of a publisher where the full rights remained with the artists and that they never had pay a cent for the production of their music while receiving a fair amount of copies of their album on A NEW WAVE OF JAZZ.  Unfortunately, due to the ongoing downfall of the cd market, spiced by the increasing and unrealistic shipping costs and the outrageous import taxes outside Europe, our business model became unaffordable.  In 2025 the hard decision was made to put the production of our physical products on hold and focus on a range of digital releases, including an archive accessilbe through a subscription on bandcamp (read more about it at the end of this newsletter).

We do hope to re-boot the label with physical releases one day but for now here’s a SUMMER SALE for you to catch upon some missing titles in your collection or get acquainted with some of the unique releases and artists on the label, while supporting us.
