“The après-Bailey scrabblings of Belgian guitarist Dirk Serries here provide a suitably featureless canvas for stalwart British reedsman Alan Wilkinson to do his thing all over – as though spreading a full-fat cheese thickly on dry crackers.  On two live sets recorded in 2020 at London’s Hundred Years Gallery, Wilkinson is as forceful as ever, summoning great gouts of honk, shriek and blast onto alto and baritone.  But it’s in the shorter studio cuts that he pursues more focused delvings.  Perhaps most entertaining is a rumbling vocal excursion where he proves once and for all that he’s the UK’s answer to Akira Sakata.”
