Lockdown projects
DIRK SERRIES contributed to a few exciting projects, infused by the hard fact of the lockdown and the domination of the covid19 virus. First one is to SABINE VOGEL (fluitist, Germany)’s intriguing ISOLATED.CONNECTED. Originally invited by ANTON MOBIN to improvise over his beautiful track with prepared chamber, Dirk’s track was then used by Sabine herself to connect and interact. Listen to the result, both solo and in duo. Anton Mobin’s piece you can hear in duo with Rodrigo Ambriz.
Second project happened when DIRK SERRIES was invited for a short covid19-induced piece by and with French guitarist CHRISTIAN VASSEUR. Check it out and also listen to the full album, featuring an impressive selection of modern guitarist from all over the world.
Online festival
This Saturday, March 20th, our first online label festival takes places. Excited, nervous and of course delighted to be able to present you a beautiful sample card of what our label represents while uniting some extraordinatry artists and fully in the spirit of our DIY modus operandi. Gratitude to the Flemish government for supporting the rollout of this event.
We do realize this is absolutely not the same than witnessing a live concert in your favorite pub or jazz club but nothing else is possible right now so why don’t give your Saturday evening a different destination for once.
We go online, if all goes well with the streaming facilities, this Saturday March 20th at 8pm (Europe mainland) and 7pm (UK).
Gina Southgate
Published already back in November last year but still relevant of course to share with you today. Here’s Taran Singh talking to the wonderful GINA SOUTHGATE, painter/performer and lifetime partner of label affliate ALAN WILKINSON. Gina is especially renowned for her beautiful live concert paintings. Enjoy this lovely interview.
Musique Concrête
Belgian percussionist and drummer Chris Joris wrote a short but intriguing review on DIRK SERRIES’ Solo Acoustic Guitar Improvisations I’ for the recent edition of Jazz & Mo. The album is of course available through our store or bandcamp.
